Kayaking

Kayaking in North Thailand

Introduction
Kayaking and paddling, whether on rivers or lakes, allows participants to venture deeper into remote areas and the natural environment of Northern Thailand. Our trips are organized on lakes and slow moving rivers, and therefore suitable for beginners. Our river guides are well experienced and trained under British Canoe Union program. They will make your trip most enjoyable, sharing their knowledge of the area through some amazing kayaking programs.

Active Day Trips
NorthernTrails® organizes two active day trips, departing from Chiang Mai city: a kayaking day trip on the Ping River, and a day trip kayaking on flat water on a scenic lake.

Lake kayaking trip at the Mae Ngut Dam
There are two dams which are forming great lakes within Chiangmai city’s reasonable travel distances. Our favorite is the Mae Ngat Dam, which is part of the Sri Lanna National Park. We also provide touring kayaks for the more experienced paddlers, which allows to paddle deeper into the lake, looking at the scenery or simply for the sport. A great nature trip operated all year long!

Kayaking trip on the upper Ping River
The Ping river, flowing peacefully through Chiang Mai city, offers a few great paddling stretches of river further north of Chiang Mai, in the Chiang Dao valley. Most trips are suitable for beginners, as we provide sit-on-top kayaks. Period: dry season only from November to June.

White Water Kayaking the Maetang River
We have a selection of river kayaks, which are based at the Maetang River Camp. Our selection of river kayaks, including Piranha and others are are available for “tailor made” programs for groups only, staying at the camp. For white water kayaking information, send us an e-mail with 2 weeks advance notice minimum.
